Most of the people who walk in here have a back or a neck that has been getting quietly worse for months. We assess how you load and hinge, because the way you get down to the floor matters more than any single sore spot, and we coach the hinge itself, usually with a plain timber dowel along the spine so you can feel what your back is doing without being told. Then treatment settles the pain enough to practise, and the strength work does the rest. Sitting, driving and sleeping positions get sorted along the way, without a lecture about posture.

Included in the price

  • Assessment of how you bend, lift and load
  • Hip hinge coaching with a dowel so you can feel the movement
  • Hands-on treatment to settle the painful segment
  • A short daily routine that fits around work
  • Practical adjustments for sitting, driving and sleeping

On the day

How this one runs.

  1. 01 Work out which movement provokes it and which one settles it
  2. 02 Settle the pain enough to move
  3. 03 Retrain the hinge and the load through the hips
  4. 04 Build tolerance back up to the thing you stopped doing

Asked every week

Asked about this appointment.

My back has been sore for years. Is it too late?
No. Long-standing back pain usually responds to the same things as new back pain, it just takes a bit longer and the plan is built around what you can tolerate now rather than what you used to do.
Should I rest it?
Rarely for more than a day or two. For most back pain, staying gently active is what shortens the episode. We will tell you which movements to keep and which to park for the week.
Do you treat headaches that come from the neck?
Yes, where the assessment points to the upper neck as a driver. If your headache pattern does not fit that, we will say so and write to your GP rather than treat it anyway.

On this appointment

Reviews left for back and neck pain.

  • First appointment I have had where someone asked what I had stopped doing instead of rating my pain out of ten. Five visits and I can get my socks on standing up. Not exciting, but that was the whole point.

    Grant M., Norwood

  • Booked in on a Tuesday morning at seven before work, which is the only reason I went at all. Tom was straight with me about how long the neck would take and he was right almost to the week.

  • A straight progress read at visit three, in writing, including when it is not working
  • If we are not the right help, we will say so in the first appointment and there is no charge for it
  • The same physiotherapist for the whole plan wherever the roster allows
