Norwood, Adelaide's inner east

We work out what is actually causing the problem, settle the pain down enough to move, then build the strength that puts socks, stairs and the shopping back into an ordinary week.

The difference

What have you stopped doing?

Not where does it hurt. Nobody books an appointment about a sock, a shoulder or a step; they book because something ordinary has quietly stopped working. We ask what that is first, watch you do it, then test the painful area by hand to find what is actually driving it.

The dowel along the spine is the same idea in one movement. Held against your back while you hinge at the hips, it shows exactly what your spine is doing instead of just telling you. Nobody argues with what they can feel.

Written visit estimate, first appointment Progress read at visit three Boring is the goal
The hinge mark: the dowel held along the spine, the way it travels down through a hip hinge.

The plan

Five stages, the film's own order.

Assess, hands-on, load, progress, discharge. The same order for a straightforward back and for a post-surgical knee, just more time inside whichever stage needs it.

01 / Assess

What have you actually stopped doing?

02 / Hands-on

Settle it enough to move again

03 / Load

A band, a step, three exercises

04 / Progress

The real task, rehearsed under load

05 / Discharge

A plan that ends, on paper

  1. 01 / Assess

What have you actually stopped doing?

Not a pain score. We watch you bend, sit to stand, step up or reach, then test the painful area by hand and the joints above and below it, to find what is actually driving the problem.

    Initial assessment
  2. 02 / Hands-on

Settle it enough to move again

Manual therapy buys the movement. Where a hinge is part of the problem, the dowel goes along the spine so you can feel what your back is doing, not just be told.

    Manual therapy
  3. 03 / Load

A band, a step, three exercises

Loading progressed every visit rather than repeated. Nothing needs equipment you do not have, because a program that needs a gym membership gets done twice.

    Exercise rehabilitation
  4. 04 / Progress

The real task, rehearsed under load

Staged return to sport or to a surgeon’s protocol, then the actual bag, stairs or garden bed, rehearsed in the room before it has to work at home.

    Return to everyday activity
  5. 05 / Discharge

A plan that ends, on paper

A written estimate from the first visit and a straight read at visit three. Most first-time plans finish in about five visits, with two exercises worth keeping.

    How the estimate works

Every appointment

What it all costs.

Nine appointment types, grouped the way we think about them, not alphabetised. Every price is a range you can read before you ring.

Health fund rebates

HICAPS, on the spot.

Bring your private health fund card to the appointment. Sam runs it through the HICAPS terminal at the desk once you have paid, the claim goes to your fund electronically, and whatever your policy allows is refunded to the same card within a few business days. You are never asked to submit a paper claim yourself.

We cannot tell you the dollar figure your policy will refund, because that is set by your fund and your level of extras cover, not by us. What we can tell you is that the claim is lodged before you leave the building, every time, for every private health extras policy that includes physiotherapy.

Check with your fund

  • Your annual extras limit for physiotherapy
  • Whether a referral is required (most policies do not need one)
  • Your remaining limit for this benefit year

What the inner east says

Fifteen reviews.

First appointment I have had where someone asked what I had stopped doing instead of rating my pain out of ten. Five visits and I can get my socks on standing up. Not exciting, but that was the whole point.

Grant M., Norwood Back and neck pain

Read all fifteen, filtered by service

  • Rolled my ankle playing on a Saturday and was in on the Monday. Anh gave me a list of things I had to be able to do before playing again rather than a date, and stuck to it when I tried to argue.

Dev A., Magill Sports injury rehabilitation

  • Jodie came to the house first, which made all the difference because my back step is nothing like a step in a clinic. I go down to the letterbox without holding the rail now.
