The first appointment is the long one. We start with the thing you have stopped doing comfortably, then watch you do it: bend, sit to stand, step up, reach behind you. Hands-on testing follows, working through the painful area and the joints above and below it, to confirm or rule out the likely causes. You get a plain explanation of what we found, treatment started in the same visit, and two or three exercises to take away. You also get an honest estimate of how many appointments the plan is likely to need, written down, so you are not signing up to something open-ended.

Included in the price

  • Full history and movement assessment
  • Hands-on testing of the painful area and the joints above and below
  • A plain-language explanation of what we found and what is driving it
  • Treatment started in the same appointment
  • A written home program with two or three starting exercises
  • A written estimate of how many visits the plan is likely to take

Asked every week

Asked about this appointment.

Do I need a referral from my GP?
No. Physiotherapy is a primary contact profession, so you can book directly. A referral is only needed if you are claiming through Medicare, a work injury claim or DVA.
Should I get a scan first?
Usually not. Most back, neck and shoulder problems do not need imaging to be assessed and treated, and scans often show changes that have nothing to do with your pain. If we think a scan will change what we do, we will say so and write to your GP.
What should I wear?
Something you can move in. Shorts for a hip, knee or back problem, a singlet or t-shirt for a shoulder or neck. Bare feet are fine in the clinic and we will ask you to walk and step, so leave the good shoes at home.

Reviews left for initial physiotherapy assessment.

  • Went in for a back that had been niggling since my second baby. The assessment was 45 minutes and I left with a plan, a price and two exercises. Front desk did the health fund claim on the spot.

    Aisha R., Stepney

  • They told me at the first appointment that they were not sure physio was the right answer and wrote to my GP that day. Turned out it was not. I have gone back to them since for something else because of that.
